Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis is a on-going sculptural exploration of transformation—not as a sudden act, but as a quiet, internal unraveling. Across four stages, this series captures the emotional and spiritual thresholds we cross as we outgrow versions of ourselves. Each figure embodies a different phase of becoming, suspended in the tension between what was and what is yet to be.
PT i. Being in the IN-BETWEEN
The first sculpture in the series, Being in the In-Between, captures a solitary figure seated with hands resting gently on their knees, lost in deep thought. Their skin appears to be shedding—cracking open like layers of an old self—while the space around them subtly echoes this unraveling. Transformation is happening both within and without, yet the figure remains unaware of its full magnitude. It is a moment of stillness and ambiguity, where the past is dissolving and the future has not yet taken shape.
In nature, metamorphosis is a quiet, instinctive surrender—an act of becoming that occurs not in moments of clarity, but in stages of unknowing. The sculptural series Metamorphosis draws from this organic rhythm of transformation, reflecting the emotional and spiritual processes we experience as humans. Like a caterpillar in its chrysalis or a snake shedding its skin, these figures exist in states of flux—caught between dissolution and emergence. The first piece, Being in the In-Between, captures this liminality: a seated figure, unaware of the changes taking shape both within and around them. Their peeling surface and shifting environment suggest an unraveling not yet fully understood. Through layered forms and tactile surfaces, the series asks—what parts of us must fall away to make space for who we are becoming?
